RIB challenge
The RIB Challenge is an introduction to RIBs for youth between 8-12 and 13-16 years old.
The aim of is to have fun and enable the participant to gain confidence in RIBs and eventually to be able to pass either their PB1 or 2 (with restrictions).
The days will be run as a PB2 course, with both shore-based theory and on water training. They will learn about:
- The appropriate clothing to be worn while on a planning speed open boat
- Boat Preparation
- The types of hulls their advantages and disadvantages
- Boat handling skills.
- The Rules of the Road. (IRPCS)
- Pilotage and passage planning
- Charts, chart symbols
- Buoyage systems
- Tides and tidal streams
- Man overboard recovery
- Anchoring
- Towing
